Came across your review while trying to find commentary on Allen's book that articulated well my serious reservations about a work that, on the surface, seemed to be inspirational. I found the book to be an uncomfortable mixture of human philosophy mingled with truth. Your review was nicely done. Thanks for taking the time to write this up.

Some things need a certain level of spiritual growth before they can be understood. Its unfortunate that you feel that way about James Allen writings,more so because you had an unusual opportunity to be exposed to his writings early in life. Do yourself a favor and try to read with understanding then you will appreciate the Master.

Thank you this was the excellent religious commentary I was looking for. To some extent I think perhaps that we would do well to think as if some of these ideas were true so we would not waste time blaming others for things that really are our fault and not fight circumstances but rather focus on the future and improving yourself by keeping thoughts pure.

Sufferings could then be an opportunity to check in and ask one self have my thoughts been pure? Am I dong what is right? Kind of like your father did, but all the while knowing Gods forgiveness and not beating ourselves up about it.
