The City of Dickinson is a Home Rule municipality with a council-manager form of government. The Mayor votes in the case of a tie. All members of the Council are elected at-large and serve three-year staggered terms. The City Manager is appointed by the City Council and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the City. Originally a land grant from the Mexican government to John Dickinson, the City is one of the oldest settlements on the mainland of Galveston County.
